Burning down the house

News Short:

This guy needs some help. Maybe he will get it in prison for 5 years or more.

Joshua A. Witman, 34, told police he set fire to the home because aliens were living in the walls of the home and a basement was a portal for demons.

$91,000 restitution is due for this man who had a history of criminal behavior and heroin abuse. Mental instability is the ultimate cause for this but popular believe about demons and aliens gives unstable people an excuse to act like this.

Perhaps admission to a mental hospital is what this man really needs, not standard criminal punishment. After serving a lengthy prison term and hopelessly trapped in debt from the restitution owed, quite likely he will end up as one of the many mentally ill homeless people living in the streets.

This is less to me about supernatural beliefs and more just a tremendous sadness at how poorly we handle mental illness in the US. If you’re going to hear voices and experience hallucinations, that’s going to happen regardless of your belief system. Someone without a supernatural paradigm in place would instead construct an NSA spying plot or a fight with a neighbor who is now “sabotaging” them.

I agree. I would like to know what psych evaluations were done before sentencing.

Demons and aliens seem to be getting more linked over the past few years. Thank you History Channel for your hard work in contributing to the crazy.

Nice job Mr. Whitman. The aliens and demonic portal were confined within the house now you have set them free to roam the world.
