Florida ‘Voodoo priest’ used spirit cleansing claim to sexually assault child and others

This story shows many failings of society. Parents must be EXTREMELY vigilant with men who claim special powers and wish to see children in private. This is a horrendous act and the man is accused of taking advantage of his “patients” many times over. But worse, the mother of the young girl was too much mired in superstitious fear to take the correct action.

A man claiming to be a “voodoo priest” accused of having sex with an underage girl has been arrested, Sunrise police say.

Brogenet Cinor, 48, faces a charge of sexual battery on a child under the age of 12.

The victim and a person believed to be the girl’s mother met with Cinor, a “voodoo priest,” at his home, police said. The girl’s mother stayed in the front of the home while the girl was brought to a man-made structure in the backyard, described as being like a tiki hut made out of wood, according to the police report.

There he restrained her and performed an sex act. When the girl told her mother weeks later, he denied it but warned the mother that she would be cursed if she said anything. Then the mother had sessions with Cinor that did not involve sex. The mother was a firm believer in Haitian voodoo and feared Cinor’s threats. When the father found out, he went to the police. It appears quite a time had passed since the alleged assault took place years ago.

Cinor is also accused of impregnating women who came to him for spiritual readings. These incidents also included threats not to tell.

The neighbors had no idea this was going on. The police fear there are other victims.

Why were these women not empowered to report such abuse? When men of status are considered more powerful and the women are held in the grasp of degrading belief, this type of abuse, and worse, results.

Certainly, vigilant with anyone; but extremely vigilant with men. Though never a sure thing, odds are your kids are safer with women. That said, anyone claiming special powers is either wacky, or manipulative. Better to avoid both men and women in that case.

Yeah. That is what I was getting at. It is a fact that men commit more sex crimes than women, but sexual assault isn’t the only bad thing that can happen when you leave a child alone with someone claiming special powers.
