The Food Babe spends more time trying to piss off critics than doing research?

Vani Hari, “The Food Babe” (*gag*), has been repeated raked over the critical coals for her often terrible information that she passes to the public. She’s attacked beer, airplane air and Subway bread. Though she often makes egregious mistakes and is great at fear mongering and getting media attention, she’s is TRULY annoyed with any commentary that calls her out on it.

Tim Farley became aware of the several ways Hari and her publicity team attempt to thwart critical comments. And, as is her usual outcome, it’s dumb.

The Food Babe tries (and fails) to thwart skeptics with technology | Skeptical Software Tools.

Ms. Hari (or her technical staff or SEO consultant) […] have started taking measures to thwart skeptics. In November 2014 they made a change on her web server that prevents skeptic use of the most popular archiving tool, the Internet Wayback Machine, for her site.

And just this week they have attempted to prevent skeptics from using another tool that entered our arsenal right from the pages of this blog – Do Not Link. This is a URL shortener I recommend for linking to pages you wish to criticize without giving them a “Google boost.” Last week the Food Babe made a change that would cause any Do Not Link URL to the site to fail to arrive – denying her own site readers while annoying skeptics.

But this latest technical measure has completely failed.

Along with deleting old posts and shutting down caches and archives to scrub the “evidence”, she seems annoyed by Do Not Link. When Farley became aware her page blocks this, he contacted the owner of the web shortener who was surprised but made a small change to the software to get over it.

Hari might want to pay attention to the quality and factual basis of her content or she could turn out to be considered a public health disaster and lose trust with her audience as did anti-vaccine advocate, actress Jenny McCarthy. Jenny is well-known for her “in your face” stance against standard vaccine schedules and tried to deny she was culpable. It hasn’t worked. The Internet remembers. The Food Babe is ignorant and foolish about a lot of things, it seems, besides food science and health. She’s well on her way down the road for building a bad reputation.

Food Babe clueless about food, science, and apparently, air.

The Food Babe? More like the Fool Babe.

Food Babe: Serving up misinformation and rancid advice – JREF.

Looking at the negative reviews on amazon just now for her book that was just published. She can’t get those removed, can she?

She used to do IT consulting. I don’t expect her to do the work herself, but she should be able to understand that it’s likely beyond her skills and means to backtrack her record online.

You can get negative comments to reviews removed, yes. However, I’ve not seen actual negative reviews removed, though it’s probably possible Amazon will if they are truly abusive and off-topic.

Beer, airplane air and Subway bread? For someone who claims to want to improve the health and quality of life of humanity, she sets her sights pretty low.

How history works: The people who are generally on the correct side of an argument welcome debate and intelligent interactions. The people who are wrong and sometimes dangerously so usually hide and try to fight against questions and reason. Hmmm…

Thanks for the link. So far no reaction from the Food Babe camp, not that I expected one. The DoNotLink “block” is still live on their end, but completely ineffective of course.
