Skeleton in the closet. For real.

We hear many stories about bodies remaining undiscovered for a long while. But 5 years in a closet is a really long time.

Coroner: Body found was hanging for 5 years.

The Montgomery Coroner’s office told 2 NEWS the body found inside a home in the 200 block of South Harbine Avenue Sunday afternoon has been there for five years.

The body was found hanging in a closet, and according to the coroner, was leathery and skeletal.

“Because of the location where he was found, it was relatively protected, sunlight protected, temperature protected and low humidity,” said Dr. Kent Harshbarger, Montgomery County Coroner.

Dr. Harshbarger said he believes the body is that of 53 year-old Edward Brunton, based on identification and other paperwork found inside the home. Officials are still waiting for dental records to make a positive determination.

Neighbors reacted with shock that the body was there for 5 years before being found. But it sounds like this was a case of a lonely man who committed suicide. Perhaps the man had no family or friends who would miss him. Sad.

It’s similar to story we covered a while back about a woman who was found dead in her garage after 6 years.

It happens. Not everyone is going to have people who miss them. Especially if they don’t have a regular job to report to, or some type of routine. It’s going to be even easier for this kind of thing to happen as fewer people rely on newspaper and even mail delivery.

    Good luck selling that house!
We’ll probably see it on a future episode of Paranormal Witness or Ghost Hunters.

At the rate we’re going, it’ll be a selling feature soon, if it isn’t already 😉

The previous owner of my house was a Cuban Santeria priestess who had a weird altar with statues and candles set up in the foyer closet, resulting in the ceiling being covered with soot from the candles. They also had a small area of the backyard where they kept goats and chickens for the sacrifices, I later found a gallon jug of “Blood Remover” in the back of the laundry room. The shed had a concrete floor except for a 2 ft. wide strip in the back which was dirt, so I’m assuming that’s were the sacrificing took place. Soon after we moved in, at night while watching TV we could hear this muffled moaning sound coming from somewhere in the house. I would turn off the TV and we would all stand there listening to it but I could never figure out where it was coming from. A couple months later we got hit by a bad hurricane and I ended up gutting the house, from that time on I never heard the sound again.
