    > Everything you need to know about UFOs

    That’s rather unscientific.

Psychic Scammed Customer…snake bites man….dog barks at cat….the sun rises in the east…are any of these newsworthy? And why are any other psychics allowed to do business? Shouldn’t there be some kind of test for these things, otherwise they are all scammers.

Well, errm, no thanks. I (hopefully) erased my Facebook presence long ago because of Zuck’s creepiness and general disregard for privacy. And now this http://slate.me/1r5UGdn comes to light and Bod knows what else is yet to be revealed (or remain hidden) so I’m definitely not going back.

I don’t see how you can have discussions there anyway, surely somewhere like reddit is a much better platform for conversational interaction?

Reddit? SRSLY? That is so troll infested and public – any idiot can post, and does. With facebook, there is a huge degree of control. Don’t paint FB as all bad, they can only use what you give them. The conversation has been great, we get a tremendous amount of traffic from FB and it’s by far the most efficient way to be social and reach people.

I said “somewhere like reddit” because I couldn’t be bothered to try to think of anywhere else that has a proper discussion platform where, unlike here, Facebook, Google+, … you can follow proper threads of conversation.

In some defence of reddit, the trolls mostly only post to the default reddits, just subscribe to the ones you’re interested in and you might never have come across Violentacrez or any of his fanbois. I never did.

“[FB gives] a huge degree of control”

So does Reddit. Especially in closed or moderated groups. That’s a bit of a strawman there.

“FB … can only use what you give them.”

Really? Did anyone give them informed consent for that PNAS experiment?

I can’t control comments in Reddit. So I’m not clear how that is like FB.

People chose to subscribe to facebook. It’s free. I’m not saying they did the right thing there but there is no mandate to use it or supply any really personal information about yourself. Lots of people are anonymous on there and are just signed up to read discussions or keep up on events.
