AVN labeled source of unreliable information by health care commission

Australian health commission take strong public stand against the organization formerly known as the Australian Vaccinations Network. They have since changed their name to the Australian Vaccination-skeptics Network which is just another in a long line of acts that show how truly mischievous and devious they are.

Health regulator issues public warning about Australian Vaccination-skeptics Network | thetelegraph.com.au.

A PUBLIC warning has been put out by the state’s health regulator about the anti-vaccination group that has been found to use fear and misinformation to scare parents off vaccination.

The NSW Health Care Complaints Commission has completed an investigation into the Australian Vaccination-skeptics Network, Inc. (‘AVN’), formerly known as Australian Vaccination Network.

The HCCC has found the AVN guilty of providing information on vaccination that was: “misleading to the average reader because it is either incorrect, inaccurately represented or because it has been taken out of context.”

Here is the press release from the commission:

Warning about the Australian Vaccination-skeptics Network, Inc. (‘AVN’), formerly known as Australian Vaccination Network Inc. – NSW Health Care Complaints Commission.

They conclude:

“The Commission has established that AVN does not provide reliable information in relation to certain vaccines and vaccination more generally. The Commission considers that AVN’s dissemination of misleading, misrepresented and incorrect information about vaccination engenders fear and alarm and is likely to detrimentally affect the clinical management or care of its readers.

“Given the issues identified with the information disseminated by AVN, the Commission urges general caution is exercised when using AVN’s website or Facebook page to research vaccination and to consult other reliable sources, including speaking to a medical practitioner, to make an informed decision.”

That is what scientific evidence-focused skeptics have been saying for YEARS. It’s great to see such a black and white statement out there for all to see.

So, in other words, this is a clear indication that this group is a source of dangerous misinformation to the public and causes harm. Also, no reputable sources (journalists or researchers) or the public should use the information provided by them. Once again, we hope this is another giant nail in the coffin of this misguided, disreputable, deadly group of anti-vaxxers.

BIG standing ovation. I cringe any time I see people post the misinformation and often refer to the articles and references I have found here to counter-act. Hats off to the Health Care Commission for taking this stand.
