The Trudeau report: Still in jail.
He’s adamant he does not have hidden money. (Such a trustworthy source he is.)
[I have this feeling some people would like to make this come to fruition.]
Jailed TV pitchman Kevin Trudeau told a federal judge Thursday he’s willing to be waterboarded to prove that he’s not hiding vast sums of money overseas to avoid paying a whopping $37 million fine.
Looking haggard after nearly three months behind bars, the normally well-coiffed Trudeau seemed to be only half-joking when he told U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman he’d gladly submit to the controversial torture technique if it led to his release.
But Gettleman wasn’t convinced, saying he would keep Trudeau locked up at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in the Loop until he decides to come clean about his assets. The judge referred to what he said was the best-selling author’s decade-long history of lying to the court as well as his documented plan to hide his wealth in offshore accounts beyond the reach of the Federal Trade Commission.
The receiver appointed by the court last July to locate and seize Trudeau’s money has managed to recover only about $49,000 as of this week, according to an accounting given to Gettleman. Another $2.8 million in Trudeau-related assets have been identified – from offshore gambling accounts to gold bars purchased in Zurich – but remain outside the receiver’s control, he said.
Trudeau, meanwhile, continued to cry poor, telling Gettleman he and his wife have nothing left but “some suitcases, some golf clubs, and maybe some clothes.”
Somebody call the wahmbulance! Where did all your money go? He’s got some ‘splaining to do but would rather stay in jail than give up his wealth.
