Society for Science-based Medicine is launched!

Nearly every day we post stories here at Doubtful News about the horrible, misinformation that abounds on the Internet, TV, radio and print regarding alternative medicine or CAM. Complementary and alternative medical treatments account for plenty of lost money, misplaced hope, empty promises, and sometimes even death. There was no organization that addressed these issues in the U.S. Until now…

From the experts who bring you the fantastic Science-based Medicine site – a brand new organization for sensible medical information. This is huge and necessary.

Announcing the Society for Science-Based Medicine « Science-Based Medicine.

The mission of the Society for Science-Based Medicine includes the following:

  • Educating consumers, professionals, business people, legislators, law enforcement personnel, organizations and agencies about Science-Based Medicine.

I will SO support this if it is science-based. The people I know who are in the medical profession though, tell me that most of their info comes from drug companies. Drug companies do a lot of science, which I think is great … but they also have a habit of not bothering with any info that is NOT drug-based. We really need a 3rd party to evaluate all claims.

It’s true. That’s what makes promoting science/evidence-based medicine so difficult. The Alt. Med. crowd does have a valid point when it comes to “Big Pharma” having done some really unethical stuff.

I think the distinction has to be made between pharmaceutical companies, and medicine.
