Earlier we had stories about deaths in Tennessee and Texas. Now, more. Get your flu shots, people! It can be a matter of life and death.
The Oakland County Health Department says three people have died after contracting the flu. The three people died of the H1N1 strain of the virus, which is a similar strain of the flu virus that caused a pandemic in 2009.
Kathy Forzley, manager and health officer for the Oakland County Health Division, said the most recent victims are aged 23, 25 and 29.
“What we’re seeing is potentially more H1N1 circulating, and we know that in this age group they may be more at risk for severe illness. And this is also the group that we have the hardest time convincing to get a flu shot,” says Forzley.

The flu also seems to have also killed a young boy, aged 5, in Canada.
A child under the age of five died at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. Coming to the hospital with symptoms of an influenza respiratory infection, the child had tested positive in a preliminary screening test for Influenza A.
It will not be known if the child died from the infection until after the coroner has completed an autopsy and finished their investigation.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jim Chirico says parents should not panic but remain vigilant about protecting their families from influenza, which has killed two other patients in this province this year.
“It’s just the flu. How can this be?” say the parents. Influenza is serious.
