I get that cows are sacred and all, but drinking pee?

I have to draw the line. And besides being gross and unsanitary, it’s worthless.

Urine-drinking Hindu cult believes a warm cup before sunrise straight from a virgin cow heals cancer – and followers are queuing up to try it – Capitalbay Information Portal.

A growing cult of Hindu worshippers in India claim that drinking fresh cow urine will help cure them of all diseases – including cancer.

The Hindu believers regard the cow as a holy animal and say her urine has divine healing properties.

Jairam Singhal, 42, has been drinking cow pee for over a decade and was keen to testify to its health benefits.

‘I had diabetes, but ever since I have started drinking cow urine, my diabetes levels have been under control,’ Jairam said.

Followers of the cult claim cow urine can successfully be used to combat cancer, diabetes, tumours, tuberculosis, stomach problems and much more.

They also claim that drinking cow pee is the only effective solution for treating baldness.

So, you see a few red flags here… “natural”, “holy”, and the unproven claim that it can work on a variety of unrelated situations. Nothing can do it. When there is a hyped claim to “cure all”, it cures NOTHING. Besides, people. This is disgusting. Sorry for the image below. Just imagine it’s beer.

Here is the American Cancer Society onย Urotherapy.

Don’t. Just don’t.

If drinking pee is so great then why does the body get rid of it in the first place?

I think it was an episode of An Idiot Abroad in India I was watching a while back where they were making soap out of cow poo. But this is just wrong on so many levels.

Sounds familiar. In 2009 a story did the rounds about a company in India producing a soft drink derived from the same ingredients that would “rival coca cola” but be all natural. A few sites picked it up (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/11/india-cow-urine-soft-drin_n_165960.html – for example). It then recycled again in 2011 in the Times of India ( http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/mad-mad-world/Cow-urine-drink-to-be-created/articleshow/10816862.cms ). I have been unable to find out if it actually eventuated.

Maybe these guys got tired of waiting for “the Real Thing” ?

Well, less of it on the ground… Remember to recycle, kids! Blargh.

I had heard that urine was sterile, and that it doesn’t become chock full-o’-bacteria until it’s set out for a few hours.

    Is that true?

    Not necessarily. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/04/120409164156.htm
The article is about humans, women in particular. For further and sometimes contradictory material, Google “is urine”. The first completion is “sterile”.
