Terrier must have a darn good memory

Dog goes missing for 8 years and appears in the driveway.

Dog missing for 8 years finds its way home to Gibsonville | MyFOX8.com.

Jack Russell terriers are known for being smart but there is one in Gibsonville that may be one of the smartest after he found his way home after being gone for eight years.

“We let him out to go potty before we left and when we went to let him back in he wasn’t there and we couldn’t find him and we looked and looked,” said Jessica.

Days turned into weeks then into months.

On Tuesday, eight years later, Jessica’s dream came true. Crista and her youngest daughter were leaving their home when they saw a dog at the end of their driveway.

He still had his collar and tags! They have no clue what happened. But it sure would suggest he was kept someplace nearby and when his opportunity to escape came again, he took it. But no one tried to find his real home? Is this the whole story? Is it really the same dog? Confusing. We’ll never know.

More: Museum of Hoaxes weighs in. Is this a feel good Xmas story concocted in the “lost dog returns” theme? Hmm. Certainly is doubtful.

The people that stole him were a little slow and it took them 8 years to get the 7 year itch. Then they brought him back.

I do not think that is the same dog. The coloration is totally different in the face. The appearance of spots on the body I would buy,as my similar looking Jack did the same, but going from a black face to light brown? I just don’t see that happening. The collar/tag thing is hard to explain but I can think of scenarios involving a very annoying Jack Russell pup* and ‘a farm upstate’…just sayin’.

    * It took me nearly two years to get my little Buddy to quit jumping up on the dining room table, and any number of other antics that would push an owner to find a new ‘home’ for him. They are sweet ,smart dogs with loads of personality, but they are also a challenge to some owners.

I wonder how smart a dog is that takes 8 years to find its way home…from the potty. That said, I’m delighted the family has their pet back.

Was it aliens? Had the dog aged at all?
