Ghostly hand in the bath: Peaches Geldof takes creepy pic of herself and child

Can our readers explain this photo?

Peaches Geldof claims ghostly hand in selfie belongs to suicide girl – 3am & Mirror Online.

Peaches Geldof claims a mysterious hand which appeared in a selfie she took belongs to a ghost.

She snapped the picture of herself with daughter Astala in the bathroom of her Kent home.

Geldof, daughter of Band Aid co-founder Sir Bob Geldof, said she had checked the council’s back catalogue and found out the 1920s building had been built by a wealthy man and his wife, who was pregnant at the time.

She said the woman had given birth to a stillborn baby and that she was so grief-stricken she had gone mad and drowned herself in the bath.

Stunt? Hard to say. But who takes a picture of herself in the bath? Well, Peaches is a little odd. It does look like a hand and we simply may not have enough information to say what it is. But, color me skeptical. These photos typically have obvious explanations and hoax is an option that must always be considered.

Her instagram page can be seen at The pixel density compared to her other photos indicates that it was cropped out of a larger photo. Seeing the complete picture would certainly help analysis.

According to the Wiki, she has two sons – born 2012 and 2013. One of them got cropped out.

Usually council records (back catalog is for music!) have fairly dry things like the name of the owner, building permits, tax value, liens and sales – I haven’t seen any thing like “baby stillborn, mother commited suicide in bath out of grief” – that might be in a coroner’s report – I notice the Mirror’s reporter didn’t go looking for this “back catalog”, so I wouldn’t put ‘creative interviewing’ out of the question for this back story. It’s a low light picture so it could be anything – a toy, towel or loofah.

I agree, it’s most likely the younger son. There’s an earlier upload (dated December 9th, 2013) with more of the left side of the photo in tact, and it seems to be the brother’s left arm extending into the shot with his hand curled inward, assuming she was bathing them at the same time. I’m also a bit surprised at how chubby her babies are, so what appears to be fingers could also be flabby rolls in a dark and therefore noisy area of a picture, giving the impression of a ‘ghost hand’.
    That’s my best guess.

Another explanation may be a combination of the younger brother’s arm extending into the shot and a write error, whereby the camera wrote over a previous file that was flagged as having been deleted, and for some reason the content of the darker area remained and combined with the new file to create this oddity.
Whatever the case, on a balance of probabilities, it’s quite probably not a ghost.

Is it just the way I see it or is the baby’s head considerably larger than the mother’s?

busterggi: That’s probably due to perspective and the angle of the shot, but it shouldn’t be ignored.

Something like this in an all pink or white might be the ‘hand’:

Look in the circle, and you’ll see a seam on the part under the hand. It’s a doll, and I bet she knows it.

Did people report seeing ghastly hands in the shower/tub prior to the release of the Ringu movies?

I’m no photo expert, but (singing along with the chorus here) I’d be quite surprised if that “hand” thing has anything other than a mundane explanation. I can’t think of specifics that haven’t already been mentioned, but (and I recall this was mentioned with Bigfoot photos) it’s “convenient” that this is a low-light and/or cropped-to-lowres pic. Smartphones supposedly now have “high megapixel” cameras, but there’s still good reasons that DSLRs with big (one inch or larger) lenses give much better pictures than cameras on phones.

Unrelated to the pic, I was surprised to read that Sir Bob Geldof co-founded Band Aid brand adhesive strips, but then I had an aha moment – “Band Aid” was one of those big star-studded mega-events for charity, and organizing it was what put Geldof’s name into the public eye.

Looks like her hand holding the baby’s foot.
