10 million up for grabs in new Bigfoot show

Just what we need, another Bigfoot show. This one, however, looks entertaining: less playing scientist and more gonzo. Featuring a blend of silly and serious, sort of like Survivor.

“10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty” Premieres Friday, January 10 at 10pm ET/PT on Spike TV « Spike Press.

Spike TV is raising the stakes by not only putting a massive $10 million incentive on the line for irrefutable proof, but by hand-selecting the strongest competitors, securing top scientists, providing state-of-the-art technology and taking the hunt to the most remote corners of the Pacific Northwest, where Sasquatch sightings are most prevalent. “10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty” debuts on Friday, January 10 at 10PM ET/PT on Spike TV.

So, paranormal evidence may get a $1 million prize (they haven’t), but if you get Bigfoot, you get a $10 million payout.

Nine teams are off on the quest to find solid evidence of Bigfoot. You will notice some familiar faces. Justin Smedja, Michael Merchant (formerly known as ‘Snow Walker Prime’), Dr. Todd Disotell as a judge and hosted by actor Dean Cain. Disotell will test any DNA samples found. While there is no guaranteed payout of the millions (color me skeptical that will happen), there is a guarantee for some money at the end for the team that presents the most promising evidence.

Check out the video preview.

Don’t think of this show as anything but a fun run through the woods (what Finding Bigfoot OUGHT to be). I have a feeling it will be more of a story about the people than the elusive animal. Do I think Bigfoot will be found? No. But I think that it will be dramatic and crazy and expose the heart of Bigfoot hunters. At the end, however it turns out, I’ll bet we end up with some sort of valuable conclusion. We’ll see. I’ll be watching January 10.

Finding Bigfoot must recruit the Turtleman if they are ever to succeed.

Oh my, the footers are going to hate this.

I’d add one other reason why this is better than Finding Bigfoot. It’s on Spike, a channel known for wackiness and “extreme” programming. Not on a supposed education and science oriented channel, though clearly Animal Planet and Discovery more generally have flushed that reputation.

Having Bigfooters with a sense of humor (like Merchant), paired with an actual scientist (an aside, five bucks says Disotell’s hair sealed the deal) who is more than happy to tell them they’re wrong if they’re wrong, and making it obvious this is entertainment (by having an actor host) is WAY better than the idiocy on Finding Bigfoot. The fact that an entertainment channel is less damaging to science and education than Animal Planet is really shameful.

They are probably pretty confident that they won’t have to pay out the prize as I’m sure no one will find Bigfoot. They could find the Bigfoot monster truck maybe.
