The creepy Northampton clown revealed

An update to the East Midlands clown around town:

Northampton Clown revealed as 22-year-old British film student Alex Powell  – NY Daily News.

The mysterious Northampton Clown, first spotted roaming the streets last month on Friday the 13th, has been revealed to be 22-year-old film and documentary maker Alex Powell.

The prankster, who’s built up an international following since first being snapped in costume, was “outed” by the Sunday People newspaper.

Photographers caught him and pals Elliot Simpson and Luke Ubanksi, who help run the “Spot Northampton’s Clown” page on Facebook, walking into a house in normal clothes.

Challenged by a reporter, he confessed, “Okay, I am the clown, but I’ve been trying to keep it as mysterious as possible. To be discreet so people didn’t find out.”

He did it for a fun prank but actually started receiving death threats. Now that’s creepy.

‘Northampton Clown’ unmasked as Alex Powell a university student and budding film maker – Mirror Online.

“On Facebook I’ve had over a thousand death threats. It was just a bit of fun at first and a lot of people seem to enjoy it but it gets a bit hard sometimes with the death threats.”

Powell, who grew up in Paignton, Torbay, claimed a man threatened to knife him at Sixfields, Northampton Town FC’s ground.

He said: “I swear he had a knife and told me he would stab me if there were not so many people around.”

Slap it into him as one says in dialect. This cretin was also trying to frighten little kids in playgrounds, in broad daylight, not just the drunks at chuckin out time. Thanks for the update – glad to see he got his come uppance & hopes it lessens the popularity of his films, rather than publicises. Sure you as bored as me wading through all the “scary” stunts & para related stuff being thrown onto net on run up to halloween; Seriously thinking of shooting down my search bots.

    Ah. Of course, a documentary.

I wonder if it can be called a documentary when you place an anomalous situation made to trigger panic in front of people, and observe them behave in a panicked fashion. Dress like a serial killing clown, watch people over react as if you were a serial killer, dressed like a clown. Sounds more like candid camera or captain video opening his pool, or the love child of the two.

I do feel sorry for him, if he gets hurt over this. He doesn’t seem terribly bright. At the very least, he should have paid someone unrelated to the website instead of being the clown and running the facebook page watching the clown. Even worse, he simply blurted it out when pestered. Well, he was probably dying to say. His parents must be thrilled.

Strangely, that brings a half memory to mind. There was something like that with another website years ago, pretending they were observers when they were behind the whole thing… hmmm, it’s almost there but I can’t bring it to mind. Well, maybe someone else remembers.

Wish we had evil clowns down here in Brighton.

I like how they said they caught him walking into a house in normal clothes. Well he must be a clown then!

    1. Yeah, he’s too clever by half

    2. Don’t find all the modern “almost human but not quite” monsters very appealing. Slenderman, scary clowns, etc.. If it would appear at an entertainment haunted house chasing people with a toothless chain-saw, or on the cover of a Slipknot album, no thanks.

I really dont understand why people are afraid of clowns, I saw “Killer clowns from outer space” a frightening movie but did not change my opinion of clowns!
