So, with all eyes on Sykes, Melba feels left out. She has announced on Facebook (as usual) that her work was peer reviewed and legitimate and so the name Homo sapiens cognatus should be granted to the forest people. I’m pretty sure lobbying on Facebook doesn’t nudge the people in charge of zoological nomenclature.
Others have declared names for Sasquatch in the past. None were accepted and I doubt that legitimate scientists will accept this request either. I can’t help but see Melba’s actions as continuous attempts as attention. Frankly, I don’t think she has a chance. She’s out of her league.
UPDATE: (23-Oct-2013) Well, the name was published. But that may not mean much of anything. There is no type specimen. The naming is simply based on the publication. I’m trying to get more info from people who actually know something about how this works. But I DO know that it does not legitimize her work.
