So that’s what’s wrong with kids today?! Mom drives!

Words somewhat fail us. File under “massive epic stupidity”, but religious extremism tends to end up there…

Saudi Arabian cleric says driving hurts women’s ovaries | The Raw Story.

A Saudi cleric sparked a wave of mockery online when he warned women that driving would affect their ovaries and bring “clinical disorders” upon their children.

“Physiological science” has found that driving “automatically affects the ovaries and pushes up the pelvis,” Sheikh Saleh al-Luhaydan warned women in remarks to local news website Sabq.org.

“This is why we find that children born to most women who continuously drive suffer from clinical disorders of varying degrees,” he said.

Luhaydan, a member of the senior Ulema (Muslim scholars) Commission and former head of the Supreme Judicial Council, said that “evidence from the Quran and Sunna (the teachings of the Prophet Mohammed) completely prohibit (women’s driving) on moral and social background.”

Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that has a law in place banning women to drive. They also have many other laws that place strict restrictions on women and their choice of lifestyle. We would like to see the exact quote in the Quran that references women driving. Gee Mohammed was really a prophet!

Stupid. Arrogant. Bigoted. Backwards.

They’re running low on excuses. The 19th Century is about to bite them in the butt.

I wonder if this distinguished religious scholar is referring to new research done by a certain Nigerian scientist…

Apparently there is no law, per se. It’s just that only men are issued licenses and women who are caught driving can be charged with “political protest.” Many women apparently know how to drive because they’ve been taught by their husbands (or they bring that knowledge back after going abroad).

I would love to see the studies the iman mentions – they must be hilarious.

I’m not so sure about the driving link, but I think there is a direct correlation between listening to willfully ignorant sods, and acquired brain trauma. It’s in PLOS ONE, look it up. ;-)

At least, on the plus side, women should equally be prevented from using such devices as sewing machines and spinning wheels, as they too involve sitting while operating pedals with their feet. More jobs for those manly men to claim all to themselves; I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to relieve the women of such burdensome tasks…

@spooky They picked “Dick And Jane Visit Darwin In Hell” for Pre-K to 6.

@busterggi He pulled that “fact” out of his… ear. And here’s the refutation by a Saudi doctor: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-57605295/saudi-doctor-refutes-clerics-claim-about-driving-and-ovaries/

“Dick and Jane Visit Dawin in Hell” was one of my all time favorites, as a kid!

It’s right up there with “Sam & Anne: Why Girls Who Wear Pants Offend The Lord.” and “Slut Shaming for Yahweh: A Primer.”

    ;-)
