A six-clawed lobster captured off the coast of Hyannis has a new home.
The lobster, picked up recently by the crew of the Rachel Leah, Captain Peter Brown and lobsterman Richard Figueiredo, was donated to the Maine State Aquarium in West Boothbay Harbor this past Thursday.
Lola, as the lobster has been named, is expected to join the others when she grows accustomed to her new surroundings.
Lobsters can regrow lost claws. Something can go wrong during that process. Or, this could be something else. Check out more on lobster-claw anomalies. Cool stuff. It’s not known how often this malfunction happens. Since the claws are so important for lobsters to survive it is unlikely that lobsters with claw handicaps grow very large or live long. This aquarium will be a nice home.
