It likely has a high-flying explanation.
Chunks of ice apparently fell from the sky on an 80-degree day in Brooklyn. The question is, where did they come from?
Terry Blasi and Louie Vitale said they were sitting on Blasi’s porch on Wednesday when something the size of a softball crashed through the trees.
Blais has preserved the ice in her freezer. The Federal Aviation Administration will look at the evidence on Monday. Until then, neighbors said they plan to take precautions.
As the reporter notes, the house is directly in the path of Kennedy airport so the obvious answer is it fell off a plane. They mention that plane ice is blue but that is only treated sewage water, not accumulated water ice on the outside. But Blasi notes that it scared her and her family with her daughter thinking it’s the end of the world. The neighbor is considering that it may be from space or is radioactive. It’s a chunk of ice people. The end of the world will be a hell of a lot more dramatic than that.
Ice falls can be a bit bizarre and considered “Fortean” because some just don’t have neat explanations. Megacryometeors are still a bit of a mystery. It’s nice that these folks have a sense of humor about it. Hardhat!
