Crazy or possessed? No way this guy should judge

Why do more and more people think that exorcism is a treatment option and, more importantly, who the hell do they think they are to diagnose them and attempt it on their friends and family?

Holiday man tried exorcism on 80-year-old girlfriend, deputies say | Tampa Bay Times.

A 54-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after, deputies say, he held down his 80-year-old girlfriend and tried to perform an exorcism.

It was unclear who contacted authorities, but deputies found Benes’ girlfriend sitting outside the home crying. She had bruised and scratched arms. Benes was on the couch too drunk to remember what happened, the report states. He told deputies his girlfriend started the fight “because she is crazy.”

Domestic altercation –> exorcism? Bizarre. Thanks pop culture for putting this insane idea into people’s heads.Ex

I never thought that anyone, beyond Ren. Faire regulars, would yearn for the halcyon days of Dark Ages “medicine”?

Do people still practice blood letting, and trepanning as ancient/alternative medicine?

It’s only a matter of time.

Being drunk is at least a reasonable excuse for thinking that someone is possessed and that you need to exorcise/attack someone. It worries me way more when supposedly sane and sober people think that is an okay thing to do.
Also, I truely wish it wasn’t true, but people still practice trepanation for “health” related reasons. Here a link to a fun and depressing article about some trepannees:
favorite quote: “Some of them claimed to have found a “permanent high” through trepanation, more subtle than drugs, more gratifying and less dangerous”
