THE black cat is back – the state government is again investigating sightings of the elusive Penrith panther.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the Department of Primary Industries is holding an independent inquiry into “large free-ranging cats”, following representations by Hawkesbury MP Ray Williams, the parliamentary secretary for Western Sydney.
30 years of stories and a reported 600 sightings and there is no better evidence of the animals existing. People have claimed to have seen lions, tigers, leopards, pumas and cougars. One big cat spokesperson says it’s a marsupial cat. The photo shown of print in this article shows claws which likely discounts it as a cat since cats have retractable claws.
There was an inquiry already in 2008 which showed evidence was not there for such a claim. If I had to bet, I would guess this inquiry will also NOT find solid evidence and will resort to “inconclusive” as to what was reported seen.
