Geisha facial – You can keep that expensive shit

Remember the fire facials, the blood facials, the snail facials? Now add the bird shit facials.

Clients drop $180 for bird poop facials at NYC spa – Yahoo! News.

That’s what goes into facials at a luxury spa where the traditional Japanese treatment using imported Asian nightingale excrement mixed with rice bran goes for $180 a pop.

About 100 women and men go into the Shizuka New York skin care salon, just off Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, each month to get the treatment, which is promoted as a way to keep the face soft and smooth using an enzyme in the poop to gently exfoliate the skin.

It’s concerning that vain women will resort to this expense and nonsense. The dermatologist quoted in the piece says it’s no different effect than probably any other (more reasonable) exfoliant to rejuvenate skin.

Nothing says beauty like smearing salmonella, e. coli, and dozens of other bacteria all over your face.

You’ll be relieved to know I can offer this service for substantially less. I’m can’t guarantee imported nightingale, but material from the local birds helps cut overhead and pass the savings on to you.

Reminds me of fire to the face facial that Chinese do.
The treatment is called Huǒ liá (fire treatment) and it’s widely practiced throughout China.
Can’t be all sure how real it is but seems to be real.

But really is this any different that the massive expense and pain people put them selves thru with plastic surgery when there is nothing wrong with their face or other body parts.

Why would they smear birdshit on their faces?

Have they never noticed the damage it does to a cars paintwork?

    From the full story:

“Bernstein says only droppings from birds of the nightingale species are used because they live on seeds, producing the natural enzyme that is the active ingredient.”

Would it surprise any of you to learn that the nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos), which would be the “Asian nightingale” of the story, does NOT “live on seeds?” I thought not.

According to the British Trust for Ornithology (, the nightingale’s diet consists of “Insects, especially beetles and ants, also berries in autumn.”
