Survivorman goes chasing after Bigfoot

More crap TV. We’re here to inform you of these things…

TV’s Survivorman to chase Bigfoot with Calgary believer | Metro.

[...]according to Calgary’s Todd Standing, the head of research group Sylvanic, Les Stroud has been in talks with him for years on organizing a expedition to find the beast of many names but most commonly referred to as Bigfoot or Sasquatch.

Now, he will team up with Standing in hopes of luring out supposed colonies of unidentified primates living between Banff and Kootenay National Park as well as in northern Montana.

“It’s been a hard sell on his behalf, but it’s all greenlit and we’re going to get it done,” said Standing, who claims he’s come within 65 metres of Bigfoot-like creatures and has devoted his life to validating claims the species exists.

Science Channel issued a release this month confirming it had approved a two-part series called Survivorman Stalking Sasquatch that it plans to air in early 2014.

Standing said the key will be for him to get the attention of the primates, who he said are dominant and keep track of all their intruders into their areas, and then draw them back to Stroud.

“I want him to come out of there saying ‘Bigfoot is real, and this guy is really studying and researching them,’ ” Standing said.

Another Bigfoot reality show, yet again on a supposed science-based TV channel. Seeing as how Finding Bigfoot has yet to actually find a Sasquatch, will this show be any different? Or will it just be another scientifical show with little subtext and lots of anecdotes? Yeah, probably.

Who is Todd Standing? He and his Sylvanic project does not enjoy a good reputation even in the Bigfoot community with many people of the conclusion that his photos and claims are a hoax.

I don’t believe they care if they find any evidence. This should not be taken as anything other than lowbrow entertainment. The goal is a high number of viewers and selling advertising.
Todd Standing has an especially poor reputation in the dubious community of Bigfoot “researchers” and is a strange choice if Stroud were legitimately interested in making any kind of discovery. I don’t believe that is the goal here.
I think we need to look at the big picture regarding the medium of television as a delivery system for information of value. Any opportunity to educate has been squandered. It is a tool of pacification and entertainment only. Turning on a television with the expectation that one will find genuinely informative programming is a waste of time better spent in libraries.

Why don’t you just ask Les directly if he believes in Bigfoot?

I’d say the folks on Storage Hunters have as much chance of finding bigfoot as these two.

Besides, if there was a bigfoot, the Turtleman would have caught it long ago.
