Google ‘hypocrisy': Result – Google hosts Inhofe lunch

Google, what are you THINKING?

In this opinion piece, James Temple rips Google for hypocrisy.

Lunch for Inhofe should be unthinkable for Google – San Francisco Chronicle.

In a shameful act of corporate hypocrisy, Google on Thursday will host a fundraising lunch for Sen. James Inhofe, the delusional or dishonest Oklahoma Republican who famously declared that global warming is “the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.”

Temple notes that Google is an advocate of “improving the lot of humankind through the power of accurate information” and whose heads have railed against climate change deniers. So what gives? Why would they accomodate such a wrong-headed thinker as Inhofe? They have not commented on their reasoning except to say they host fundraisers for both sides of the aisle. As remarked, this is a bit different – Inhofe and climate change deniers are actively engaged in misinformation. The politics is getting mixed up with mission here. Where will Google draw their ethical line, if they have one?

So who do you listen to? The next time you read an article or watch a YouTube on climate change and you find yourself agreeing with a climate change denier, consider very carefully: Who is it that person you are listening to? And how do they compare with their typical counterpart on the other side of the debate? What makes them so special? Most climate change deniers…Just aren’t that impressive. They are rather underwhelming as a group.
