Genie Scott to retire from National Center for Science Education

I think it’s fair we can call Genie Scott indefatigable. We all knew this day would come.

NCSE’s Scott to retire | NCSE.

NCSE’s executive director Eugenie C. Scott announced on May 6, 2013, that she was planning to retire by the end of the year, after more than twenty-six years at NCSE’s helm. “It’s a good time to retire, with our new climate change initiative off to a strong start and with the staff energized and excited by the new challenges ahead,” she commented. “The person who replaces me will find a strong staff, a strong set of programs, and a strong board of directors.”

Genie will be missed dearly. She is such a professional, so sweet, so smart. That is one tough cookie in a candy shell. Best of luck to her, I do expect we’ll see her around.

I’d love for her to lecture, or do a program, or both about the relationship between science, and politics!

Those are some big shoes to fill for whoever takes her place.

I hope she will still remain active in the science community, I’d be very sad if I were never to hear her voice on a podcast or documentary again. What a wonderful advocate Genie has been for both science and education. I had the great pleasure to meet her once and she was every bit as gracious and articulate as you’d expect.

I hope that she enjoys any extra free time that her retirement gives her.
