When the price of beauty is to set your face on fire… get mental help

You know the motto of this site… Can you really believe this stuff? People actually think this fire facial stuff will work and are willing to try it. What is WRONG with you people?

Hot new beauty trend: Huǒ liáo or ‘fire treatments’ – MSN Living.

Looking to give your dry winter skin a boost, soften a few wrinkles or say goodbye to your saddlebags? You may want to consider the latest Chinese spa treatment, Huǒ liáo or “fire treatment.” Yep, you read that correctly.

News of this bizarre beauty ritual surfaced after a photo of a woman with her face ablaze was posted to the Chinese message board tt.mop, reports The Frisky.

Even Cosmopolitan mag thinks this is bizarre but I wonder, if it really did work, if women would actually take the risk and do it. But there is no reason to think it does work. Is the risk greater than the benefit? YES!!! This is insane!!!

Allegedly, this ritual is a widely practiced form of alternative therapy. It involves soaking a towel in alcohol and a “secret elixir” and placing it on a “problem area” such as the face, legs, back and neck. Next, the esthetician sets the towel on fire for several seconds before extinguishing it with another cloth.

The doctor quoted say it may trigger a stress response but otherwise, there is no need to light it on fire. Except drama. So exactly how will stress make you look younger?

I call complete and utter BS on this one. For one, we don’t know if this actually is done to any or many people, the origins are shaky. But the exposure due to this story may cause more people to try it. Don’t EVER try this or have it done.

Don't ever do this.

Don’t ever do this.

Sounds like an entry for a Darwin Awards contest….

No matter how unappealing you may think wrinkles are…. 3rd degree burn scars will look infinitely worse.

Rand: I am not a fan of the Darwin Awards. They are mean and they misrepresent evolutionary theory.

Are you having a “fat day”? To draw attention away from your hips and buttocks, simply set your face on fire! Happy International Women’s Day!

Bizarre. Anyone who goes for this definitely has a very large bunch of screws loose.

People are willing to inject their face with poison. This doesn’t surprise me.

The travel show “An Idiot Abroad” had their host experience this type of massage in series 1 episode 1. He did not have the facial version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBcyqtMyoOU

My skin looks fairly good for a person my age. I’ve always tried to keep from getting sunburned and use those skin creams with eucalyptus oil, linseed oil, and camphor, like Noxzema, every now and then to wash my face with. Exfoliation; gently scrubbing away dead skin cells, is important, too. Drinking a lot of water is helpful, too, I seem to recall having read somewhere.
