Mystery of the Dorset primate

All we have is a really blurry photo.

Student spots mystery ‘primate’ stalking though park – Telegraph.

Terri Leigh Cox, 17, says that she saw something hunched over and bounding around on all fours from her bedroom window in Dorchester, Dorset, and took a photograph of it on her mobile phone. The teenager said that the park’s visitor, which she insisted was not a dog or cat, then ran up a tree and out of sight.

The park is about 10 miles from the Monkey World attraction in Wool. Miss Cox, who is studying health and social care at college, said the creature “looked about the size of a small gorilla. It was walking like one as well, using its arms and feet”.

As you can see below, the image is blurry so no detail is discernable to determine what it really is. The monkey park confirmed that all their residents are accounted for. No trace of the critter was found. What could it be? What other animal in this area could climb trees?

It looks like a three legged stool?

If it ran up a tree, wouldn’t it be easy to walk over and take another picture of it? Even if it hopped to several other trees, why would it be so hard to follow it? The angle of the photo really suggests that it was taken from the ground level (otherwise the top of the hill would be visible), so it couldn’t be that difficult to walk outside and do a follow up. The blurry photo looks like a black lab chasing it’s tail.

The legs are too thin. For a gorilla, at least. Maybe a pet chimp?

Chimps are notorious escape artists. I wouldn’t be surprised if one went for a stroll and came back in time to be “accounted for.”

I’d suspect a hoax; either on or by the photographer, in order to get her name mentioned publicly.

Two of those legs (?) seem to be wearing green socks – leprechaun maybe?

Hayley Stevens has more on this. Is it a grazing deer? http://hayleyisaghost.co.uk/thoughts-on-the-dorset-monkey/

It looks like a large dog, something gangly like a Great Dane, with VetWrap (cohesive bandage) on two of the legs.

It appears to be facing directly away from the camera, (the green-clad legs as back legs) but. with the head turned to look at what’s behind it.

There’s even a hint of tail blur, and on zooming in, what appears to be one thick leg (far right) actually looks like there’s a split up the middle, and is the two front legs at such an angle that they appear to be joined.

I had a black dog for 13 years, and spent a lot of time standing in fields and shouting “Come on, home time!” as my dog stood over 100 feet away, in exactly that position, pretending to be deaf!

As for the “running up a tree” bit, she’s either fibbing, or the dog’s run off through the trees in such a way that the perspective has created an optical illusion.
