A horrible tragedy indeed. Incomprehensible. But there’s a twist.
Grief counselors were scheduled to be on hand Monday at a Northern California high school attended by teenage siblings who were shot and killed by their father before he took his own life, authorities said.
Investigators in Calaveras County also were looking into a motive behind Saturday’s double murder-suicide in the mountain community of Murphys, Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Hewitt said. Deputies found Alex Marshall, 17, and his younger sister, Macaila, 14, dead of gunshot wounds.
Xeni at Boing Boing ties many things into this post.
Philip Marshall has been identified as a former pilot for Eastern and United airlines. He self-published a number of books, including at least two about his 9/11 conspiracy theories: “The Big Bamboozle” (February 9, 2012) and “False Flag 911: How Bush, Cheney and the Saudis Created the Post-911 World” (July 29, 2008).
Marshall was a two-time guest on Coast to Coast AM speaking about Saudi intelligence and the 911 attacks. He was convinced that Al Queda was not behind the attacks but that it was an inside conspiracy.
This piece notes that there is no evidence that it is anything other than a murder/suicide but many friends of the family are having a hard time accepting that Marshall snapped and killed his kids. However, there was a history of some run ins with law enforcement, including an arrest for battery.
It is not clear AT ALL what role his conspiracy beliefs played in this event. It’s also not fair to speculate at this point until more information is revealed.
