Sorcerer’s house explodes, kills 5

Blast at African sorcerer’s house kills 5 | News.com.au.

Police officials said on Tuesday the blast killed five people.

The sorcerer, often known in the West as a witchdoctor, and a man seeking to improve his failing finances, were among the dead, witnesses said.

Army bomb disposal experts told neighbours they found no remnants of a bomb or petrol or gas containers.

In Zimbabwe superstition, sorcerers can use lightning, common during current rain storms, to eradicate enemies. Neighbours told reporters they feared a “lightning manufacturing process” was being carried out Monday.

Errr… What? I don’t know quite where to go with this.

See update here. It gets weirder.

So… did they find no traces because they did a thorough search and no traces were there to be found? Or did they all stand around going, “I’m not going in there. You go first.” “Heck no, you go.” “I got a wife an kids to feed!” “Let’s just say we didn’t find anything and go home.

The Player’s Handbook clearly states how far a magic user has to be away for a fireball spell to be used safely. No excuses.

Seems to me the takeaway is not to have overly much faith in the competence of the Zimbabwe Army for your bomb disposal needs.

I’d guess that they were probably attempting to manufacture a bomb for an act of terrorism, but that’s just a guess. Or it could have been a Bigfoot. But probably not.

I know this is very late, but: a rival or someone who wasn’t helped by his magic presumably decided to murder him with explosives.
