Reverend fears occult practices in Wales

This is a confused piece.

Witchcraft ‘thriving in the Welsh countryside’ – Telegraph.

Witchcraft is thriving in the Welsh countryside, a church minister has said, as he described stumbling upon an increasing number of effigies, users of the evil eye and exorcisms.

Rev Felix Aubel claims occult practices in rural Wales have been increasing during the two decades he has been working in the area.

The minister spoke out after latest figures in the 2011 census has revealed 83 witches and 93 satanists are living in Wales.

Rev Aubel, who is the minister of five Congregational chapels in rural Carmarthenshire, said he has called out an exorcist after a witch placed a curse on one of his parishioners.

Rev Aubel said he hoped his autobiography, called A Rebel’s Story, acted as a warning to people not to get entangled in the occult.

Hmm, curiously the guy has something to sell…his autobiography. Meanwhile, he is hyping fear in the occult. He is generalizing and telling stories from what I can see here. Most people would think he’s doing this in order to scare people back into the church and away from ideas he finds “dangerous”. So what that (ONLY) 83 witches and 93 Satanists self identify in Wales. That’s not much and what if they don’t know what they are even doing? This is a rather awful story.

Interesting. When the church performs exorcisms and uses effigies (people nailed to trees) it’s ok; when someone else does these things they’re occult practices (and therefore evil, since it’s not the church doing them).

Sounds to me as though the good reverend is no better than the fear he is purveying to make himself wealthier. Religion or not – when you make money by lying, you’re doing your own evil.

If there is a spike in the newt population then I’ll consider his claim.
