Huge earthworm specimen found

Biologists trying to figure why giant earthworm grew so big

A huge half-meter-long earthworm was found in the gutter of a residential house Thursday in Binchuan Country, Yunnan Province in southwest China.

Depending on the species, an adult earthworm can be anywhere from 10 mm long and 1 mm wide to 3 m long and over 25 mm wide.

YOW! That’s a whopper. Unusual, but not unheard of. If it gets enough nutrients and nothing else eats it, it will keep on growing. Earthworms are awesome and important.

More giants!

more likely it’s an illegal pet from Africa (I’d bet that it turns out to be the species of giant earthworm that occurs in the Congo….there are a LOT of Chinese in Africa now, and they aren’t squeamish about smuggling home rhino horn and live animals, why not a Giant Earthworm?)
