‘What I do is scientific’, says astrologer. OK, stop laughing.

Astrologer Susan Miller Shares Her Secrets – Business Insider.

Don’t call her a clairvoyant and whatever you do don’t compare her to Miss Cleo.

Famed astrologer Susan Miller, who has a business degree from NYU, finds this talk deeply offensive.

“What I do is scientific,” Miller said over lunch. “Astrology involves careful methods learned over years and years of training and experience”

Business Insider: What are some misconceptions about astrology

Miller: That it’s totally crazy to use it to plan your life. There are so many things we don’t understand in the world. What if 200 years ago someone had said that these metal barrels in the sky would get us around the world in a few hours? Or that we’d inject ourselves with mold to treat illnesses? People are so skeptical.

Tip: r/skeptic on Reddit

That’s ironic. I find her misunderstanding of “scientific” deeply offensive. Her description of involving careful methods learned over years of training can apply to woodcarving, yoga, hatmaking, origami, etc. That’s not science! Plug numbers into what looks like math mumbo jumbo and it APPEARS impressive but you still get mumbo jumbo out.

Oddly, people in the business world seem prone to look for unconventional ways to feel like they are in control of a volatile market. Psychics as business advisors seem to be gaining in popularity.

But, boo on you, Business Insider, for hosting such a piece of nonsense.

Business and math degrees add respectability to astrology, like expensive smoking jackets, gowns and jewel-encrusted cigarette holders add respectability to smoking.

When substance is lacking, appearance is everything.

I guess you could call astrology the “science” of mentally manipulating fools.

It’s simply a corrupt use of psychology for profit.

Wow, there seems to be no end to this paranormal nonsense now. I do seem to recall that the Ronald and Nancy Reagan used either an astrologer or psychic, not sure which.

The programming phrase that would describe astrology math would be: “Garbage in garbage out”.
