Coroner’s officials said Monday they will examine what appears to be a pair of lungs that were found on a sidewalk in South Los Angeles to determine if they belonged to a human or an animal.
Someone called to report what she thought were organs about 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 13100 block of Avalon Boulevard, said Sgt. Robert Dean of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s sources familiar with the investigation said much will depend on the corner’s assessment of the organs. They noted that even if they turn out to be human lungs, it will not be clear if they resulted from foul play or were discarded remains from some other source.
Tip: The Raw Story (appropriate)
Well that’s something you don’t find every day. In all liklihood, it won’t be human but it’s still pretty disgusting just out there on the streets like that.
A suspected set of lungs washed up on shore in Texas last March. It was determined the organ was not from a human but probably dolphin.
UPDATE: (12-June-2012) Animal, not human. But the particular animal identity was not known.
