Tarot, psychics, prayer, sixth sense? No, just random luck.

The mother said she always felt she would win Gold Lotto.

“I’ve always had a sixth sense that I would win big in Gold Lotto,” she said.

“Several psychics and tarot card readers have confirmed this prediction over the years. I normally only play my lucky numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto but last week, I had a feeling that I should buy a QuickPick entry as well.

“I’m so glad I did as that was the winning ticket.”

She has been praying for a windfall to enable her to assist her grown children.

So, she prayed and she played. She had a sixth sense and “several” or “a” psychic(s) predicted this. WHAT? This story is all over the place. Shake it all out and it’s a cool coincidence. But one thing I could guarantee, if a psychic tells you that you will come into a large sum of money, and many do, you remember that and may be more likely to play the lottery. I wonder how much she lost in bets before this. I also wonder how many MORE people pray and have a feeling that this is the week they will hit the lotto but don’t.

This is an example of post hoc rationalization. She fits in all these pieces that have nothing to do with each other and believes it to be correlated. It’s not. She got lucky.
