Woman claims raw diet is her fountain of youth

70-Year-Old Woman Looks Like She Just Turned 40 Thanks to Vegan Diet and Rainwater

…in the news is another 70-year-old who seems to have found the secret to eternal youth, only hers doesn’t imply using growth hormones and testosterone. Annette Larkins doesn’t look a day over 40, thanks to the diet and lifestyle she maintains. She looks so young that people mistake her to be the daughter, when she’s out with her husband of 54 years, but I suppose he isn’t complaining.

Mrs. Larkins says the secret to her beauty lies in the raw vegan diet, consisting of organic vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts grown in her own garden, she calls the ‘fountain of youth’. The woman doesn’t touch anything that has been cooked. And another strange thing she does is collect rainwater, to keep her garden blossoming, but also to drink.

I saw online that she doesn’t remember much about where she grew up. So, I might like to see her birth certificate. But if she has grown children, this may very well be true. In which case, genetics has a lot to do with it. If you have good genes that keep you healthy and allows for your skin and body to not look aged, that will do it. Most women age because of sun damage or other lifestyle choices. Sure, diet seems to play a part. But, probably not the “fountain of youth” she suggests.

    - Isn’t is very important not to tell people they can’t exist on rainwater, as it it doesn’t have the essential minerals in it, and can harbour bugs.

    – Apart from the fact that the story sounds too good to be 100% true.

An ex-obsessive wrote a book about living on a raw food diet for years.
    He concluded, that :
    1. He got into incredible self-deception e.g. when it went wrong & he got sick he convinced himself it was because he was not being rigorous enough.
    2. That the premise that we are genetically adapted to eat 100% raw food is not true, as we have been cooking for over 200,000 years.
    3. The fruit/vegetables common today is not what our ancestors ate as in general we have selectively bred much sweeter varieties.
    – Many anthropologists have recently written about cooking being the key to human evolution : other specicies have to spent much more time eating, have skulls dominated by muscles, leaving less room for brains etc.

    – It can be said that in certain countries people seem to appear to age slower than say white people, looking 30 when they are 50, but then when they reach 60 suddenly look 90.

    – There are many other factors : It’s been debunked on Science Based Medicine before http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/index.php/simply-raw-making-overcooked-claims-about-raw-food-diets/

    another debunk : http://www.beyondveg.com/billings-t/selected-myths/selected-myths-1b.shtml
