Nine winning Mega Millions lotto tickets worth $250,000 each were purchased in southeast Michigan on Tuesday — including five at a Meijer store in Northville.
Lottery officials say there’s a strong likelihood that the five tickets were purchased by the same player, but they won’t know for sure until the winner or winners come forward.
In total, there were 2,024,644 winners of prizes, ranging from $2 to $250,000 in the Tuesday drawing.
This does sound like long odds and might automatically launch an investigation by the lottery board. When the winner or winning pool comes forward, they might have some explaining to do. But I don’t get it…why would one player pick many of the same numbers on multiple tickets? Was it really just the luck of the draw?
