They pass as they lived, together

After being married for 6 decades, Pennsylvania couple die hours apart

Family members say a couple married for more than six decades died 12 hours apart in central Pennsylvania over the weekend.

Richard Trimmer, 81, had been hospitalized after a fall when his children told him Sunday that his wife of 61 years, Nancy, had died in her sleep. Richard Trimmer was dead a few hours later, succumbing to lung cancer.

While sad, the couple was not only elderly and in poor health but this could be chalked up to coincidence. Also, of note is this news: Heart Attack Risks Soar for Grieving Loved Ones

So perhaps the rush of chemicals prompted by the bad news was enough to cause a very ill Mr. Trimmer to pass away. A poignant, but still sad, ending.

I dispute that it is sad. My grandmother lived with agonising cancer for over five years until her husband died, after which she gave up and died soon after. She did not want to leave him, she did not want to live without him. I think that is touching and rather beautiful.

she was my grandmother and you would be correct, it was beautiful and has put our family at peace. They will be greatly missed but always loved

I am glad you have found peace. I really don’t know to what extent stories like this are coincidence or whether people really do just stop fighting, I suspect there’s a bit of both but who knows. It’s a moving story, anyway.
