Mystery sky noise reported in Costa Rica (Hoaxes abound)

“The Hum” Heard In Costa Rica | Ghost Theory.
The strange sound heard over Costa Rica is somewhat of a global phenomenon. For the last few years (more so these last few months) there have been reports of a strange, and very loud, sound that appears to come from the sky. It’s been reported and many countries like Ukraine, Canada and different parts of Europe. Now, we get the latest reports from the small country of Costa Rica. Just what exactly is going on?
On the 9th of January, 2012, Costa Ricans awoke to a strange loud sound that emanated from the sky. The frightened Ticos called the authorities to report the apocalyptic-sounding hum. The explanation they received, left many of them suspicious. No way was the thunderous sound anywhere near what fireworks sound like. The authorities though, remained steadfast in pushing their fireworks explanation to the nervous callers.

This article from Costa Rica seems to suggest that it could have been fireworks.
The same night at the precise moment the reports began, the Zapote Fair was having it’s closing ceremonies whereas they set off some 150+ high powered fireworks in to the sky.
Now, it’s important to note that the reports of the strange sound in the Costa Rica skies Monday…came from as far as Perez Zeledon – what is the likelihood of anyone in Perez Zeledon, some 170kms from Zapote over the tallest mountain range in the country, hearing fireworks from Zapote? Not likely.
Sound can travel VERY far under certain conditions, reflecting off clouds and essentially missing wide swaths in between. But this may not explain this event. This mystery seems to be correlated with other unusual sounds around the world. I’m not sure what’s going on or that we can find the answer but it is an intriguing unknown. The list of what it could be is long.

Love this stuff. Very Fortean. I’ll keep an eye/ear out for more.
UPDATE: Here is an example of the metallic sky noises going around. Hard to make heads or tales out of these.
UPDATE: 15-Jan-2012 I’m calling fake on the Alberta video. It seems to be someone playing the sounds recorded on THIS video from Kiev back in August, which is a bit strange. Notice that you can hear kids in the background and the same noises, albeit worse sound quality are in the Alberta video. That also looks to be recorded a bit too conveniently and staged. Same sounds, I might agree could be possible but the kids in the background and “playback” quality to the sound lock it for me.
Tip: Strange Sounds from the Sky
UPDATE: 15-Jan-2012 The strange sounds from the sky blogger has been keeping up with forum posts about this and has made an interesting update. The Costa Rica booming sounds ARE THE SAME as those recorded in Colorado in August of last year. These have been linked in the video to the east coast earthquake of the next day but they sound more like rifle practice to me. One really can’t make a connection to the quake.
So, to wrap up, the whole sky noise phenomena is rife with hoaxes and ridiculousness. Don’t believe it. And go here for more.

It should be noted that the “hum” claimed by some and popularized in the 1990s (most famously as the Taos hum), was typically individual and not heard by an entire community.
Obviously this means that something horrible and wonderous lies under Costa Rica.
As with most things in esoterica, it showed up first in an H. P. Lovecraft story

Awesome! I’m all eyes and ears.
search sky sound battleford its in saskatchewan and made the saskatoon news same sound but lots of people heard it also a video on youtube
I wonder if these sky noises being reported globally could have anything to do with the shifting in Earth’s magnetic field? It would be interesting to see data that shows if there’s a correlation.
Why would a shifting magnetic field make noise in certain areas only in certain times? The magnetic field is always drifting.
