Detoxing will not make you look like a movie star

But it may make you say “eww” and your bank account smaller.

A healthy way to diet… or a load of Goop? Gwyneth Paltrow reveals her New Year cleanse

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is a fan of detox cleanses. Start the new year off right, she says,  waste invest $425 on a cleanse.

From her web site:

The cleanse arrives within a few days after purchase and consists of a tasty protein shake and several supplements that help digestion, rebuild beneficial bacteria, and eliminate toxins. For 21-days you’ll have a shake for breakfast, a solid meal for lunch from a list of foods Dr. Junger recommends, a shake for dinner and your Clean supplements throughout the day.

Or, you could just eat better and exercise (which is actually what this plan mostly is, other than a Slim-Fast clone). But it also includes a load of supplements that have not been shown to do anything worthwhile for you, especially “eliminate toxins”.

Detoxes are a load of crap but celebs love them. Perhaps it’s the ritual of detoxing people love.

Videogum: “Please show me the instructional manual that explains how much of a “break” your digestive system needs.”
