Tulsa, Oklahoma is again hosting the second annual ‘Conference on the Rite of Exorcisms in the Latin Church’. Unfortunately the conference is not open to the general public, but only those priests who are currently, “…engaged in the church’s pastoral care of those afflicted by extraordinary demonic activity”.
The official registration pamphlet states the conference is meant for: “understanding the development of the rite of exorcism in the Latin church with an in-depth analysis of the Latin text.” Sounds about as interesting as paint drying.

Intriguing. I’d love to be a fly on the wall but I’m sure I could not stop laughing. Here is the conference info site.
I know, ridicule isn’t good but there are some things the just cross the line. So they are using all these old texts? But no modern psychiatry, it appears. To believe in demon possession at this stage of human history is to relinquish yourself to the basest thinking about how the world works: good vs evil. To quote one of my favorite quotes of all time from Ben Goldacre: “I think you’ll find it’s a bit more complicated than that…”
While you are there, check out this story about a failed show about a modern day demon hunter. Glad it won’t see the light of day. But, man, demons are hot these days.
