Baby dead. Parents blame paranormal creature (Philippines)

Baby’s death in Talisay City shocks parents | Sun.Star.

THE death of a ten-day-old baby in Sitio Magay, Barangay Tangke, Talisay City yesterday dawn baffled authorities, including a church official.

But the family of John Edison Malacay believed a paranormal creature was responsible for their loved one’s death.

The newborn was seen by his parents with blood oozing from his mouth and nose. His navel also swelled up with marks that looked like it had been drained.

The baby’s family and neighbors suspected someone that transforms into a supernatural form was responsible for John Edison’s death.

This is appalling. First, that a baby could be potentially neglected/mistreated this way and second, that such ignorant superstition still exists in today’s modern world. I’m sure I don’t understand it at all. In one bit of light from this story, the police and the local vicar seem to be against the idea that something supernatural has occurred. Regardless, it is a horrible event, whatever the cause.

I wonder if they will do an autopsy?

So many things could have happened. Abuse is obvious, or the child could have been attacked by a very real and physical creature, like a dog or rats (though I’m really not sure on the probability of a rat attack–less likely than Dingo or shark I would suspect.)
