“The Amazing” Randi caught up in mystery over partner

“The Amazing” Randi caught up in mystery over partner – South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com.

Randi acknowledged that the arrest of Alvarez and the allegations of identity fraud have opened himself up to attack by his critics, which are legion. He said he is not overly concerned fresh attacks from paranormal practitioners will undermine his work — he has a lecture tour scheduled across Canada next week.

Yes. This news has brought out critics of Randi and the JREF who find it irresistible to take digs at this time about things that have nothing to do with this situation.

Apparently the poor man whose identity was stolen has been through quite the ordeal. I wonder why “Jose” won’t come clean and admit to being who he really is (provided he’s not really Jose Alvarez)? I seriously doubt there’s anything all that sordid in his past- well, other than identity theft. If he’s just an illegal immigrant I’m sure Randi has the resources to help him fight extradition. I don’t think the judge is likely to let him out unless he comes clean as to who he is.

Jose Alvarez is listed as the co-founder of the JREF in 1997 and was on the board of directors for over 11 years until 2009 when he left. Is this fraud? The JREF took in several million dollars as a tax free non profit. If they lose their status because of this will the IRS want their tax money? Will the contributors want their money back too? The JREFMDC looks like it was just a cash cow for the scam? Can the MDC applicants sue the JREF for fraud too?
