Evolution of an artist: Daniel Loxton

Evolution of an artist: Times Colonist (Canada)

Victoria resident Daniel Loxton’s children’s book may have been “too hot” for U.S. markets, but it’s garnering high praise at home in Canada.

Evolution: How We and All Living Things Came to Be, for ages eight to 13, has been nominated for two Canadian literary prizes worth $10,000 each.

When Loxton pitched the illustrated science book to American publishers, he said he received a common response. “Usually what they said was something like, ‘Well of course I love it, but we just think it’s a little too hot,’ ” said the author/illustrator. “Which is a strange thing to say about fundamental biology.”
